I keep reading books telling me the past cannot be cured
as I look to my arms; covered in scars.
I brush my hand across their raised skin
I don't pay homage to the past no more, her name, or the reasons-
Oh I forget the actual reasons
an intangible indifference
and your family and your friends they don't like the way you treat them.
She says darling take a step back
look what you're doing to you
you are worn out and you're run down and you're not yet 22
I know its hard to say no when night time rolls around
there is no shadow of regret cast all around you
That defiance and indifference - the way you have been living
and your family and your friends don't like the way you treat them.
Fast forward five more years
I'm not sure if the past has been cured
but its been covered by a smile from a girl not 3 years old
Her hair is like the sunshine that I know embrace whole
and I feel liberated for the first time since 15 years old
Oh I forget the actual reasons
an intangible indifference
towards your family and your friends
they way you used to live back then.
